Psychological manipulation of people into performing actions or divulging confidential information.
What is it?
Social engineering is the art of manipulating people so they give up confidential information. The types of information these criminals are seeking can vary, but when individuals are targeted the criminals are usually trying to trick you into giving them your passwords or bank information.

Often a component of crimes covered under Sections 66, 66C, 66D of the IT Act and IPC sections for cheating (420).

Penalties vary based on the resulting crime, but can include imprisonment and hefty fines.
Safety Tips
- Be wary of unsolicited emails, calls, or messages asking for personal information.
- Verify the identity of the person or organization before sharing any data.
- Don't be rushed. Scammers often create a sense of urgency.
